The Time Traveler’s Wife is a book I just finished a few days ago. In the middle of reading it, I discovered there is actually a movie coming out in August and the preview looks amazing! I’ll post the preview for the film at the end of this post. So this book was suggested to me by a friend who said it was one of her favorite books! We both enjoy reading mostly the same types of books, and this is a little different than the books I have been reading lately, but I am glad I read it!

On the surface, Henry and Clare appear to be a normal couple. Henry works at the Newberry Library and Clare is an artist, but the reality of their lives is that Henry is a time traveler. And he’s not in control of when it happens. He gets swept back and forth, from the present to the past and back again. When he disappears from view, he leaves behind his clothes and possessions, and arrives naked in another time and another place.

Clare actually meets Henry for the first time when she is just six years old. It’s a future Henry. Henry meets Clare for the first time when he is 28 and Clare is 20 and having known him already most of her life. Sounds a bit confusing, but the heart of the story is a love story combined with the challenges that Henry’s spontaneous time travel pose in their life. The author goes back and forth between Henry and Clare’s perspective and I had no problem following along and quickly getting wrapped up in the lives of the characters!

I liked the book a lot – mainly because the story line was creative and unique, and very well thought out and written. I am more looking forward to the movie version, based on the preview below, I think Hollywood can add some of the real drama that readers feel when reading the book and understanding the ultimate love story Henry and Clare are living. Not to mention I love the song in the preview.
